Mass Spectrometry Technology

MALDI-TOF MS
Innovative MALDI-TOF technology, optimized for robustness, enables a range of capabilities including high-throughput biochemical screening (HTS). In particular, the rapifleX® MALDI PharmaPulse® (MPP) enhances label-free HTS, combining the mass detection of enzymes, substrates and products with the required speed to comb through compound libraries containing millions of substances.

QTOF MS
Outstanding dynamic range, high mass accuracy, and MS/MS performance enable Bruker's ultra-high resolution (UHR) QTOF MS systems to deliver confident, reliable results for both targeted analytical testing and broader discovery research applications. For example, routine forensic or food safety laboratories are frequently required to perform comprehensive screening of complex samples to identify residues, contaminants or toxicants. Our TargetScreener HR solution meets the need for high accuracy results that can substantiate crucial decisions.


Ion Trap MS
Modern ion trap systems offer high performance, combining ease-of-use with outstanding robustness to deliver fast MSn results with high sensitivity. The Toxtyper® delivers a highly automated, robust screening solution for identifying potential toxicants and drugs with complete transferability of results from lab to lab, within minutes.

Mass Spectrometry Applications

Drug discovery

The use of mass spectrometry for drug discovery allows the measurement of unmodified substrates in primary screens to avoid false positives or false negatives, making confirmation screens redundant. The entire drug discovery workflow is supported by the rapifleX® MALDI PharmaPulse®, offering high-throughput label-free mass spectrometry for large, fully automated screening campaigns.

Forensic drug testing

Analyzing complex body fluids for the presence of drugs and/or toxicants together with their associated metabolites is a challenging application especially when getting it right first time is of major importance. At the heart of the TargetScreener HR is a high-quality forensic database of over 2800 compounds of forensic relevance, which enables comprehensive targeted forensic screening and clinical screening, confirmation and quantitation of drugs and other toxicants in human body fluids. In addition, the Toxtyper® holds a curated high quality spectral library with approximately 3000 MSn spectra of nearly 1200 compounds of research toxicology interest, and a smaller targeted library for drugs of abuse (DOA) screening research.

Food and water analysis

Using pesticides to reduce crop damage and to increase horticultural productivity has been implemented on a global scale for many years and, due to their toxicity, the potential migration of these chemicals into the human food and water supply chains presents considerable health concerns. Solutions such as the TargetScreener HR are specifically designed to cope with the challenge of complex matrices encountered when screening for pesticides and hormones.
